In the midst of providing directions to a child on Monday, a woman says her gold necklace was stolen and replaced with a fake.

Just before 1 p.m., the woman was putting items in her car at Willow West Mall when a small, black car stopped close by, police explain in a news release. A girl of about 12 years old lowered a back window and asked for directions to a business.

After providing directions, the child leaned out the window and gave the woman a hug. Afterwards, the woman reportedly realized her necklace had been taken and replaced with a fake gold necklace.

The girl is described as having brown skin. The vehicle she was in is described as a small, black car or SUV, driven by a brown-skinned man about 30 years old, with a heavy build, black hair and facial hair.

There were two other children in the vehicle.
