Guelph police are investigating after a man was beaten with a baseball bat inside his own apartment early Sunday.

Just after 6 a.m. emergency services were called to an address near Willow Road and Edinburgh Road North. A man in his 50s reported earlier that morning he was in his kitchen when an unknown male entered the unit and struck the victim in the head with a wood baseball bat. The victim fell to the ground and was struck several more times.

The assailant took some cash off a table and fled. The victim was transported to hospital for treatment of head injuries. It is believed the two are known to each other and this was a targeted incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
