A Kitchener man faces impaired and stunt driving charges after he was caught driving more than double the speed limit in Guelph early Friday.

At 12:25 a.m. police were patrolling in the area of Gordon Street and Lowes Road when they observed a vehicle travelling 88 km/h in a 40 km/h zone. The vehicle was also observed drifting into the bicycle lane on two occasions and was pulled over.

While speaking to the driver the officer detected a strong odour of alcohol on his breath and several empty beer cans were located in the rear seat area of the vehicle. The driver was arrested and transported to the police station, where testing confirmed he had twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

A 36-year-old Kitchener man is charged with impaired driving, stunt driving and speeding.
