A west end resident returned home after a Saturday outing to find their home ransacked, along with $5,700 in cash and a “large amount” of jewelry taken.

Police were called to a home in the area of Marksam Road and Stephen Drive just before 1:30 p.m.

Neighbours reported seeing a male knocking on the home’s front door soon after the occupant went out, a police news release states. He was then seen walking toward the rear of the house.

The man is described as white, in his 40s and about 5’7” tall. At the time, he was wearing dark clothing, possibly including long shorts, and carrying a red, reusable bag.

About $5,700 in Canadian and American cash was taken, along with jewelry including bracelets, rings and pendants.
