A Gordon Lightfoot tribute performance by Guelph’s James Gordon aims to fundraise for an international cause.
Soon after Lightfoot's death on May 1, Gordon’s phone was ringing off the hook with fans asking if there was going to be a Guelph tribute dedicated to the famous Canadian singer/songwriter, said in a press news.
The amount of interest, and grief people expressed showed Gordon the impact Lightfoot had on Canadians, inspiring a tribute concert called Minstrel of Dawn that will be held on June 22 at Harcourt Memorial Church at 7:30 p.m.
Advance tickets are available online through Eventbrite and cost $32.34. Tickets will be available at the door for $35.
Joining Gordon in the performances will be Guelph-based artists Gayle Ackroyd, Grant Campbell, Greg Denton, John Farley, Brenda Lewis, Harri Palm, Preetam Sengupta and Hellion Ton. There will be surprise guests.
The tribute fundraiser will raise money for The Tumaini Letu DRC Project. The project is located in Ciruko, Democratic Republic of the Congo with a population of about 5,000. Healthcare, education, literacy, food security are the areas of focus the project seeks to improve in the community.
