A Guelph family is asking for prayers following a tragic car crash last Sunday that claimed the life of one child and left another fighting for her life in hospital.
Evan Lodge, 12, died Sunday afternoon in the incident just south of Cambridge when a vehicle driven by a 17-year-old male collided with the a vehicle containing four members of the Lodge family who were returning from a cross-country skiing excursion.
Evan's sister Amanda is currently fighting for her life in a Hamilton hospital and another sister, Alyssa, is recovering from serious injuries.
Mom Susan, the fourth member of the family in the vehicle, did not suffer any serious physical injuries.
On the website caringbridge.org, the family is sharing updates on their situation publicly.
Caringbridge.org is a non-profit site that allows people to share and update their medical journeys in a blog format, partially to avoid having to share details many times one-on-one.
Wrote Greg Lodge on the site:
"This is Greg, I just wanted to thank all of you for this outpouring of love for us. I have read and re-read the comments here and on Facebook to try to find any strength left in me. Today was my first smile as Alyssa has improved dramatically and was smiling and laughing while taking her first walk with a walker. I'll take it. But our worst fears are being realized for Amanda. I'm sick and scared as our grief is worsening."
Gregson Lodge is a choir leader and organist at First Baptist Church in Guelph. Susan Lodge is a teacher at Guelph CVI.
Susan's sister Helen Fagan posted that "Susan and Greg will remain at the hospital for some time and ask for only prayers."
She said the family does not need any food or financial assistance.
"They are most grateful knowing that so many people love and support them. Their extended family is at the hospital with them and they are not taking any additional visitors."
