NEWS RELEASE
GUELPH AND DISTRICT LABOUR COUNCIL
***********************
The Guelph & District Labour Council will be hosting a Day of Mourning ceremony on April 28, at 1 p.m., at Goldie Mill Park. This event is to commemorate the workers who have been injured or lost their lives while working and to support the families affected by workplace tragic incidents. This year the connection between the climate crisis and the impact on the safety of our workplaces will also be a focus.

The event will feature speakers and musicians including representatives from the Ontario Network of Injured Workers Group (ONIWG), Tina MacPherson Workers Health & Safety Centre (WHSC), Nicole Clark (GDLC President), Janice Folk-Dawson (Former OFL Executive Vice President) and music provided by the Snipetz and James Gordon.

A special Rose Dedication ceremony will be part of the program, symbolizing the loss and resilience of those impacted by workplace tragic incidents. This poignant tribute allows community members to pay their respects and honour the memory of those who have tragically lost their lives.

Immediately following the ceremony, all are invited to join us at Diana’s, a local gathering place where attendees can come together to share some food and reflect on the day’s events, network with fellow advocates and discuss future strategies to ensure safe and healthy work environments for all.

We encourage media representatives to attend and cover this significant local event, highlighting the importance of worker safety and the efforts of organizations addressing this issue.
