Ever wonder what happens to waste after it’s picked up at the curb? A chance to see for yourself is coming up.

In recognition of circular economy month, city officials are set to host an open house at the Waste Resource Innovation Centre on Dunlop Drive on Oct. 5, offering free tours every 30 minutes between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

People will have an opportunity to learn how waste is processed and items diverted from landfill through recycling and organics.

“During the open house, you’ll have the opportunity to meet the people working behind the scenes in waste management around Guelph, tour the facility, view the collection vehicles and equipment, and explore various environmental programs offered by the city,” states a post on the city’s website.

Advanced registration is required. To book a tour time, click here.

Tours are limited to 25 people at a time. Attendees must be at least 10 years old and be wearing closed-toed shoes. Personal protective equipment will be provided.

Tour-takers should be at the centre 15 minutes before their scheduled time.

In addition to the tours, Guelph Tool Library will be collecting working laptops as part of its circular computer project and collecting hard-to-recycle items.
