The Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate remains without its iconic pinnacles.

The next phase of potentially restoring a piece of Guelph history has begun.

The Diocese of Hamilton has confirmed to GuelphToday it has received word of preliminary pricing to restore the pinnacles atop the Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate.

But the Diocese is keeping that number confidential at this time.

“We will have to go to market and don’t want this information shared,” chancellor Jim Long said in an email.

He said the next step is developing a fundraising plan.

“We will look at all sources available,” he added.

The iconic pinnacles were taken down in December 2022.

The pre-cast concrete pinnacles, made in the 1920s, were in a "very poor state of repair, and basically starting to fall apart."

"I had actually noticed every now and then, chunks of concrete on the ground," Father Ian Duffy said in an interview in February 2023.

Last July, it was confirmed the diocese was committed to look at possibilities and pricing.
