City officials are set to shut down a section of College Avenue West, including the intersection with Edinburgh Road, to allow for the installation of cycling infrastructure.

Months-long construction shutdowns are on the way for a busy section of road and a well-used intersection in central Guelph.

City officials are set to close College Avenue West from Lynwood Avenue to Rodney Boulevard on May 21 to allow for the installation underground infrastructure and protected cycling infrastructure, explains a post on the city’s website, followed by a shutdown between Rodney and University Avenue.

The first section is expected to be closed through the end of August, with the rest of the work completed by year-end.

“Absolutely no through traffic will be permitted during the closure,” the post states. “Delays should be expected. Please follow posted signs for safety and detour information.”

As part of that project, officials will close the intersection of College Avenue West and Edinburgh Road South beginning that same day in May, with the shutdown expected to continue until the end of August.

“All businesses in the construction area will remain open and effort will be made to keep them accessible throughout the project,” officials note. “Every effort will be made to maintain access to driveways in the construction area during working hours (7 a.m.–7 p.m.). Construction activities and equipment movement may temporarily impact access to private property.”
