Crews respond to Elizabeth Street commercial fire

Cause of the fire remains under investigation

On Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at approximately 1:26 a.m., the Guelph Fire Department responded to a reported fire at [415 Elizabeth St.]. Firefighters arrived at the scene and found heavy smoke and flame coming from a large pile of scrap metal found within the compound at this location.

The fire was quickly brought under control and subsequently extinguished. Units from headquarters, Speedvale, Stone, Elizabeth and Imperial stations attended the scene. Extensive overhaul was performed by crews on scene. All water used in fire fighting efforts was captured on site and will be professionally removed later today.

There were no injuries reported on scene.

The cause of the fire along with an estimate of damage is still under investigation. Guelph Fire investigators were contacted and will be following up at a later time.

The Guelph Fire Department would like to thank Guelph Police Services, Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Services, and Guelph’s Environmental Protection Officer for their assistance. Also the employees of Benmet Steel and Metal who assisted in moving extinguished debris.
