GuelphToday received the following letter to the editor from the family of Constable Norma Owen, expressing their appreciation to the Guelph Police Association.

On behalf of the family of the late Constable Norma Owen, I’d like to extend sincere thanks to the Guelph Police Association.

Over the past 41 years, in Norma’s memory, the Police Association has organized an annual golf tournament to raise money for cancer-related relief within our community.

The Association recently donated a sum of $30,000 to Guelph Wellington Hospice. This money is a portion of the over $500,000 donated over the past 4 decades.
Each year, this group has volunteered their time and effort to coordinate a full day of golf, elicit donations, raise awareness and make a significant contribution to those affected by cancer in Guelph and Wellington County.

We truly appreciate the time and energy which is freely given by the members of the GPA to organize this event for such a worthy cause.

In these times which often seem so troubled, it is important to thank those who give so much back to their community.

The generous contributions, both personally and professionally of the members of the Guelph Police Association are so valuable to the health of our community. Many local families experiencing the trauma of cancer have found some sort of relief directly through their efforts and contributions.

Please accept our sincere appreciation for the donations made in Norma’s memory for 41 years.
